The method of production is known as ‘Pyrolysis’ which is the burning of wood under high temperature in the absence of air and this leads to removal of water and impurities.

PRODUCTION

Production of charcoal is mostly carried out in places like Oyo, Kwara, Isheyin, Saki, Ogbomoso, Igbo ora, Kabba and so on but they are found in abundance in places like Minna, Jos and Kaduna.

The right type of wood determines the quality and quantity of charcoal to be produced.

When it comes to exportation, there are varieties of charcoal product to be exported. These includes the hardwood charcoal/lump charcoal, ayin or restaurant base charcoal, barbeque charcoal, and charcoal briquettes. Although there are other varieties, these are the common ones that are been traded. Each type of charcoals has their uniqueness, and they are demanded according to buyers use and preferences.

USES

Charcoal is used in manufacture of cosmetics, used as cooking, heating during cold seasons and weather, filtration process in water purification and also in metallurgy and industrial use.
